Dance Team Criteria and Commitment Information
1.  Dance Team Auditions

a.  Dancers must have been enrolled at Danceworks for a minimum of 1 year.

b. Each dancer must audition in the age division he/she is on the day of the auditions (unless pre-approved by Artistic Director, Miss Amanda):

         i.  Ages (7-12 yrs) Jr. Company

        ii. Ages (13-18 yrs) Sr. Company

    c. Appropriate Audition Attire:  Columbia Blue or Columbia Blue/Black Leotard with Black Dance Pants or Black Booty Shorts (must wear tights with booty shorts).  Or you can just wear a studio leotard and any color tights.

    d.  Judges-Danceworks will bring in 2 outside dance sources to judge our auditions.

    e.  Audition Day-At auditions, the dancers will be asked to state their name, age, and city/state as well as learn a small combination.  They will be broken up into groups and judged on various abilities, such as: Performance, Technique, How well they dance within a group etc..

    f.  100 pts. Judging Scale: Seniors must score 80+, Juniors must score between 75-79 pts.

    g.  Letters will be mailed out notifying each dancer if he/she has made our Dance Team.

    h.  Danceworks requires each dance team to have a minimum of 5 dancers.

2. Dance Team Commitment

    a.  Dance Team is a year long commitment starting in the Summer and continuing through the dance season.  Dance Team members are required to take fall and summer classes, at Danceworks, in the style of dance that they compete in,  as well as Ballet class.  Junior and Senior Jazz and Lyrical teams must also enroll in a Leaps and Turns Class at Danceworks.  Hip-hop is the only team Not required to take a ballet class, but a jazz class is highly recommended.

3.  Dance Team Fees- Dance Team classes are priced at unlimited fees.  Classes are held 1 hour a week.  The class times may changed with the season.  Performers are only allowed to miss 3 practices for a specific performance.  More than 3, the dancers will not be allowed to perform at the upcoming performance or competition.

      a.  Extra Dances: All Dance Team members are required to participate in the Opening and Finale dances for the Spring Recital.  A schedule will be given out at our January Parent Meeting.

     b.  Competitions: Danceworks usually attends 3-4 competitions and 1-2 dance workshops per dance year, including one big trip either at Spring Break or in the Summer.  All competitions are voted on at the 1st parent meeting in September.

    c.  Performances: The Dance team is required to participate in our Newark Halloween Parade(October).  We also like to perform at local fairs, community events and local schools.  Participation is highly encouraged from everyone on the Dance Team.

   d.  Dance Team Outfit:  All team members are required to purchase a Danceworks Dance Team Jacket and matching warm-up pants.

4.  Solo-You must be a member of the Dance Team for a minimum of 1 year before doing a solo.  If your dancer would like to do any special dances such as a solo, he/she must be committed to private lessons every week until the dance is finished.  They must also continue rehearsal privates a minimum of every other week.  A charge for private lessons are $60/hr, $30/half hour and $15/15 min.
